MICHEL BASSOMPIERRE PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF OFFICER OF ARTS AND LETTERS

On April 1st, the Musée Bourdelle was the setting for a particularly moving and symbolic moment… Michel Bassompierre was there elevated to the rank of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, receiving his insignia from Roselyne Bachelot.

In this place steeped in history, where the sculptural power of Antoine Bourdelle still resonates, Michel Bassompierre’s work found a distinctly meaningful echo. A major figure in contemporary sculpture, he now stands as one of the last great modelers, perpetuating a rare know-how in which the hand dialogues directly with the material.

His animals, filled with gentleness and quiet strength, seemed to naturally engage in dialogue with the monumental forms of the master of the place.

This evening offered a unique encounter between two artistic worlds, two sculptural sensibilities united by the same demand for material and emotion. A timeless interlude, where Michel’s bestiary became, for a moment, part of Bourdelle’s legacy.

A powerful moment, at the crossroads of institutional recognition and artistic poetry…
