Biography
Chris Riley is an Australian contemporary artist born in 1988 in Armidale and based on the Gold Coast. A self-taught artist, he has developed a distinctive practice shaped by an unconventional background, particularly in the automotive industry, where he gained a strong sensitivity to precision, surfaces, and technical processes.
His work explores the role of colour in an increasingly uniform and standardised world. Through his paintings, he constructs idealised leisure environments such as pools, palm trees, and classic cars, drawing on a retro aesthetic inspired by the 1950s and 1960s, blending nostalgia, calm, and escapism.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he creates a coherent and instantly recognisable visual universe. His compositions, positioned between reality and imagination, invite contemplation and offer an immersive experience where light, colour, and space convey a sense of quiet optimism.
