LIS SAM

Biography

LIS SAM

Born in Tunisia in 1989, Lis Sam arrived in France at the age of 11. He trained in crafts, developing a keen sense of aesthetic form at an early age. As is often the case with artists, it was a fateful encounter that revealed his calling: one day, while travelling, he came across a work of art that moved him deeply. From then on, he devoted himself entirely to creation, exploring various mediums through successive projects. But it was a second, even more intimate revelation that marked a turning point: a visit to a butterfly greenhouse in the south of France. Fascinated by the suspended beauty of the moment, he imagined his project ‘Blossoming Girls’.

In this vibrant world of colours and textures, the artist composes a dreamlike world where nature dialogues with creation. Through the use of preserved butterflies, he offers an immersive experience into his memories, echoing the silent magic of this formative discovery. These delicate insects blend into the floral headdresses of his subjects, revealing a subtle harmony between organicity and poetry. Each creation thus becomes a celebration of biodiversity.

Playing with the principles of optical art, Lis Sam invites the viewer to rediscover the work with each movement. Perception evolves according to the angle of view, making each glance unique.
