ANTHONY THEAKSON

Biography

ANTHONY THEAKSON

Anthony Theakston is a British sculptor born in 1965. After six years studying ceramics in Bristol, he obtained a master’s degree in ceramic design in Cardiff in 1990. He then taught at Camberwell College of Arts and Falmouth School of Art in London, while developing his own studio. A member of the Crafts Council since 1991, he regularly participates in major international events where he showcases his work.

Anthony Theakston has always been fascinated by birds and their flight, interpreting them in a semi-abstract style that magnifies their clean lines and dynamic forms. His sculptures, both graceful and rigorously constructed, exude an emotional intensity that transcends simple figuration. The artist distils the essence of avian grace, simplifying silhouettes to retain only gesture and movement. Feathers become stylised curves, an arched wing folds back over the body as if to suspend the momentum of a moment. His birds, tilted and stretched forward, express both inner energy and the promise of flight, capturing the fragile tension between balance and vitality.

Recognised for his talents as a ceramist, Anthony Theakston has been collaborating for several years with the Castle Fine Arts Foundry in Wales to produce his bronze sculptures using the demanding lost wax technique.
