JÜRGEN LINGL

Biography

JÜRGEN LINGL

Jürgen Lingl is a German contemporary sculptor, born in 1971 in Bavaria and based in France since 1999. Trained as a wood sculptor, he quickly gained recognition through several prestigious awards, including the Paul-Louis Weiller Prize from the Institut de France and the Édouard-Marcel Sandoz Prize. Today, his works are part of numerous public and private collections across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.

His work explores the expressive power of sculpture through animal figures, as well as human and spiritual subjects. Rather than simply representing his subjects, Jürgen Lingl seeks to reveal their inner strength, tension, and presence. Balancing power with refinement, his sculptures convey a quiet emotion and a distinctive visual identity.

Jürgen Lingl is one of the very few contemporary sculptors to use a chainsaw as his primary creative tool. Carved directly from wood and then cast in bronze, his sculptures preserve the energy of the original gesture, resulting in works where material, movement, and emotion come together in a powerful and timeless presence.
