Venice – Galeries Bartoux revives the spirit of the Accademia cinema

The inauguration of Galeries Bartoux Venice marked the culmination of two years of extensive renovation work on the former Accademia cinema.

Opened in 1928, this venue was one of the city’s last historic cinemas before it closed in November 2002. Appreciated for its intimate atmosphere and arthouse programming, it remained abandoned for twenty years.

In 2023, the Bartoux family discovered this building steeped in history and came up with an ambitious project: to give it a second life while preserving its Venetian soul. For months, architects and craftsmen combined their expertise to breathe new life into the space: restoring the stonework, preserving the woodwork and selecting materials in keeping with the original spirit.

Today, this unique art space perpetuates the Venetian heritage while embodying the vision of Galeries Bartoux: a setting where tradition and contemporary creation meet.
