PATRICK RUBINSTEIN
Biography
Patrick Rubinstein was born in Paris in 1960. Coming from a fashion background, Patrick Rubinstein produced his first optical works in 1977. A year later, he sold his first creations, laying the foundations for his practice. Constantly perfecting his technique, he launched his own movement: ‘Kinetic Op art’, combining the technical principles of the optical arts with the theme of figuration in art. He invented the patented ‘Dooble’ principle, a fusion of two images designed to merge into a single one on an accordion-folded support.
In his creations, Patrick Rubinstein blends figurative art, pop art, geometric abstraction and surrealism. He reappropriates icons from the second half of the 20th century, revisited in a colourful 60s Pop universe, tinged with the black and white glamour of the 50s, and shaken by the anarchic madness of 80s Street Art.
The artist invites viewers on a captivating journey through time and space, where past and present converge in a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes. His three-dimensional works are a veritable visual experience, delivering even greater emotions!
